The image of Lancashire as a landscape of grimy back-to-back terraces, mill chimneys and cobbled streets takes a severe knock in this superb evocation of the north western county by award-winning photographer, Jon Sparks. Of course, the grim industrial past cannot be forgotten, but Spark's view of his home county also takes in the glorious countryside of the West Pennine moors, the Bowland Fells and the wild expanses of Morecambe Bay, bordering on the Lakeland fells. The proud civic past of towns like Preston, Lancaster, Manchester, Burnley and Wigan are all recorded faithfully through over 140 glorious colour images which throw an entirely new light on this most under-rated of English counties. Though born in Cheshire, Jon Sparks has lived in Lancaster since the age of 11. He has published Lancaster and Lake District greetings cards and postcards for ten years and has supplied the words and pictures for Lake District Moods published by Halsgrove. He was the winner of the photographic book award in the Outdoor Writers' Guild Awards for Excellence in 2004.
